An Open Letter to Oprah Winfrey
Yesterday, I watched as you bared your soul about your weight gain, medical problems and what a crappy year ‘08 was for you. After thinking all of that over, I wonder if perhaps your life not “being in balance” was, or is not, all that is bothering you.
As I recall, your much-loved dog Sophie became ill and passed away not too long ago and I don’t think you realize how much losing your pet has truly effected you. I too, lost my devoted pet a while ago and though I have adopted another, no animal can replace the cherished one that has passed on. When that happens, a part of your heart leaves with them and can never be replaced.
I think that is what Bob Greene detected missing in your eyes. It was a glint of happiness reflected from knowing your dog, confidant and best friend awaited when you returned home.
I am sorry for your loss but assure you that your grief will lessen with time and when you pass on, she will be the first one to greet you on the other side.

Well said!
Sorry, I’m not an Oprah fan. So, better to say nothing than something negative.

I’m not an Oprah fan, either! But, I don’t think she should show us her grief. Perhaps a psychiatrist or Gail could help her! Death is a part of life! I am not trying to be unsympathetic to her grief, but living too much in a glass house is not healthy. Some things are or should be private! You can bet that if I did what she did I wouldn’t get any ratings!! LOL!! She knows how it feels to be human! In my opinion, she has placed herself up on a pedestal so high that when life happens she falls hard!
I enjoyed your post! Thank you, homemaker!

I like that she’s showing us she’s a real person… but she is a classic example of “money doesn’t solve everything!” Darn it - I was hoping that was true. LOL
I really like Oprah and I am a huge fan. I’ve watched her career since she started out in Baltimore as a newscaster. Have a great week.
